Remember that time Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) sold 12 limited edition Beetles on Lazada in just 20 minutes? Well, apparently that spurred them to open up an online marketplace that offers special deals and promos when you buy a Volkswagen over the internet.

Creatively named the Volkswagen Marketplace, it’s an e-platform that allows customers to reserve a Volkswagen from the inventory together with exclusive offers and promos such as the one to honour its launch.

20 units of the Passat 1.8 TSI Trendline Cyber models are listed on the Marketplace for an online-only price of just RM135,888. Considering that the entry-point into Passat ownership now is with the RM169,488 Comfortline, this is quite a considerable reduction in price although the caveat is that the 20 units are 2017 production models.

To try and further sweeten the deal, VPCM has bundled a five-year free maintenance and one-year free insurance plan as well as a low 0.88 per cent interest rate for the first five years.

Equipment-wise, the Trendline Cyber is similar in kit to the Trendline Plus with leather seats and larger 17-inch wheels in 215/55R17 rubbers. Even so, the Trendline Cyber is still priced significantly lower than the Trendline Plus that went for RM144,990.

To secure your vehicle on the Marketplace, you need to follow five simple steps:

Step 1 – Select the Volkswagen model
Step 2 - Select the preferred dealership
Step 3 - Enter customer details to continue with the reservation
Step 4 - Finalise reservation by submitting a fee of RM1,500 via credit card
Step 5 - The selected dealer will assist the customer throughout the purchase process till the car is delivered

“The idea of creating an e-platform such as the Volkswagen Marketplace had been in the pipeline for some time, and the recent success of VPCM’s partnership with Lazada further spurred the idea. The rise of e-commerce has changed the way people shop, and selling 12 Beetles on Lazada in just 20 minutes confirmed our belief that Malaysians are ready and receptive to buying cars online. This as an important development for the brand and we are very excited to be able to bring Volkswagen Marketplace to Malaysia,” said Erik Winter, managing director of VPCM.
