The rapid growth of eSports is hard to ignore and UMW Toyota Motor got dibs as the first car company in Malaysia to be associated with the activity following the crowning of the winner at the first Toyota Velocity Championship in Malaysia.

Held over the 21-23 September weekend at Sunway Pyramid, 400 participants raced against each other at the biggest national eSports event for bragging rights and RM20,000 in cash for the winner.

Keeping uniformity was the use of the Toyota GR Supra Racing Concept on state-of-the-art Playstation Gran Turismo Sport simulators with the venue set to the legendary Suzuka International Racing Course in Japan.

The 400 were whittled down to the 10 fastest that went head-to-head in the finals. Muhammad Uzair S Abdul Nasir Khan made the others eat virtual smoke as he emerged the winner and took the RM20,000 pot. Mior Muhammad Hafiz Mior Lahmudin and Aiman Haziq Aidi took second and third respectively to take home RM10,000 and RM5,000. Consolation prizes of RM2,000 were given to the remaining seven finalists

Keeping members of the public during the competition were the celebrities from the Toyota Gazoo Racing Racing Festival; Diana Danielle, Janna Nick, Shawn Lee and Syukri Yahaya Aiman Tino, Khai Bahar, Nabila Razali, Wany Hasrita, Akim Ahmad and Nabil Ahmad, who also raced each other on the simulators.

Fans will also be able to catch the celebrities in full action at the Toyota Gazoo Racing Festival at MAEPS Serdang, from 19-21 October 2018.
