June 2019 marks Proton’s second-best month in terms of sales, having pushed 7,615 units to position itself behind the 10,611 units from May 2019. More importantly however, the June figures elevate it to second in the overall charts behind market leader Perodua.

Although the June figures were lower, it still translated to a market share of 18.1 per cent; its highest since July 2015. Accordingly, the sales numbers were 23 per cent higher than the corresponding period in 2018. The continuously increasing sales has so far resulted in a sales growth of 61 per cent to keep the carmaker’s pace towards achieving its 2019 target. Its year-to-date market share is 14.7 per cent.

Once again and unsurprisingly, the X70 led the charge. By the end of June, the SUV has accounted for 15,175 units in the first half of 2019. On average, Proton delivered in the region of 2,500-2,800 units of the SUV monthly. Nonetheless, X70 numbers dropped by over 30 per cent in June as sales begins to drop to regular figures going forward.

The Saga saw 2,541 units delivered in June while bookings for the Persona, Iriz and Exora grew by 108 per cent, 180 per cent and 135 per cent respectively.

Models that haven’t undergone a refresh under Geely barely registered with less than 80 units in June.

Proton says it’ll concentrate on efforts to grow its sales as well as introducing new or updated models.
