Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia has announced that order books for the Arteon R-Line are open with prices falling within the RM290,000-RM310,000 ranger depending on the box you tick. As the successor to the CC, it’s going to try and take on some of the more established names in that bracket such as the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

That’s not to say it won’t be packing a formidable arsenal to now be the marque’s flagship model here. You’ll get a 2.0-litre turbo-four pushing out 280hp and 350Nm of torque to all four wheels via its 4Motion system with a seven-speed wet-clutch DSG in between. Everything is packed into the carmaker’s current MQB platform in a sleek fastback silhouette.

For that money; which is quite a bit, you’ll get the usual Volkswagen bells and whistles such as the Active Info Display that debuted here in the Golf. Furthermore, the new Discover Pro infotainment system will be displayed via a 9.2-inch touchscreen with gesture control and support wireless app connections like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Mirror Link. Seeing that the Arteon is larger than the Passat, a 360-degree view camera makes sense for navigating tight confines.

R-Line styling elements will adorn the interior and exterior to go together with the eight shades available; Oryx White Pearl, Pyrite Silver, Reflex Silver, Romance Red, Urano Grey, Manganese Grey, Deep Black and the hero colour used in promotional shots, Turmeric Yellow.
