It is evident that in Europe at least, the new automotive cake baking in the oven will be pure-electric flavoured and Audi will not miss out on a large slice. And they will do so with the Audi e-tron 50 quattro, which is deemed to be the ‘entry-level’ electric vehicle in hopes for more buy-ins.

Complementing the e-tron 55 quattro in the lineup, the e-tron 50 carries a 71kWh battery, gets momentum from two electric motors with a range of up to 186 miles (or 299km). With a 120kW charging capability, the e-tron 50 get 80% juiced-up in about 30 minutes.

The two electric motors, each mounted on an axle, gives this EV all-wheel-drive capability. Although Captain Planet did not appear when their powers combine, the electric motors generate 230kW and 540Nm, which e-mails the SUV to 100kph from zero in 7.0 seconds. Top speed for the e-tron 50 — 118mph (190kph), electronically-limited, ironically.

Of the two, it is the backside motor that does all the work while the front proactively shows up only when it needs to. According to Audi, it is the most efficient way to do things.

Weight, or the lack of, aids in the running efficiency and thermal management. In fact, the advanced thermal management system with its standard thermal pump regulates the temperature in the cabin and cools the electric motors, the power electronics and the charger. This ensures the high-voltage components can live a longer life and allows fast charging with direct current (DC).

Aside from fast-charges, the e-tron 50 can be charged from the home wallbox or the rear motor when decelerating. The e-tron 50’s brake system includes the electro-hydraulic actuation that activates when the force of deceleration is more than 0.3 g. Audi claims that this will shorten braking distances in any situations.

The Audi e-tron 50 quattro will appear on UK driveways in soon as early 2020. Needless to say, we won’t be seeing it here soon. In the meantime, we can only appretiate the e-tron 50 via the pictures below.
