In case you missed out on the glorious news, Mercedes-Benz is making a return to straight-six engines with a little helping hand from mild-hybrid electrification in the form of a starter generator dubbed the ISG (integrated starter generator).

The first models here to pack the new engine and hybrid tech was the CLS450 and AMG CLS53 4Matic+ but now that figure’s doubled with the latest additions; the E53 4Matic+ in sedan and coupe styles.

Replacing the short-lived E43 models, the new E53 will sport the same 3.0-litre inline-six that uses an electric compressor and traditional gas-driven turbocharger to make 435hp and 520Nm of torque while the ISG that slots in between the AMG Speedshift 9-speed automatic and block adds an extra 22hp and 250Nm of torque.

Power goes to all four wheels via the 4Matic system with variable torque distribution. The added grip helps dispel the century sprint in just 4.5-seconds.

Inside, you’ll find Artico leather and Dinamica microfibre generously distributed around the cabin of the sedan while the coupe gets the full Nappa leather works. The little preview following the marque’s Q3 result announcements included AMG Ride Control+ air suspension, AMG performance exhaust, driving assistance package, 20-inch wheels, AMG Track Pace data logging and a heads-up display that’s just for the coupe.

Prices haven’t been confirmed yet but expect it to be in the region of RM740,000 for the sedan and RM764,000 for the coupe.
