Sabah will be getting a new racetrack to develop motorsports in the state and it’ll be built in the second phase of the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP) at a cost of RM132 million beginning next year by KKIP Autocity, a Sabah state government company.

Apart from the obvious development of motorsports talent in the state, the circuit will also generate progress in tourism and recreation. Furthermore, the facility will pave the way for expansion and the growth of small and medium automotive as well as motorsports businesses.

“The land for building this race circuit has been identified and is in the process of being transferred,” said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau to Bernama. The announcement was made during the launch of the KKIP Sabah Drag Battle last weekend.

Selangor’s Chief Minister Amirudin Shari has also voiced a proposal to build a similar circuit in Sungai Tua, Gombak. The proposed track with a seating capacity of 1,000 will be located together with associated facilities on a 20-acre plot and be built as a Public-Private partnership.
