Porsches in general are exquisite machines but limited trim runs and special editions is something Stuttgart isn’t shy to let loose with and the latest is the Cayman 718 SportDesign introduced in Malaysia for RM625,000 and limited to just 15 units; five of which are already spoken for.

So, what is the 718 Cayman SportDesign? Well considering the 718 Cayman is a blisteringly quick machine right out of the box, we can close an eye to the fact that it’s more of an exercise in cosmetics.

The body lines are re-sculpted with a new front and rear apron from the quicker 718 Cayman GTS. Exhaust tips, door handles, side air vents and the rear spoiler all get blacked out. Carbon fibre racing stripes ensure your neighbours know you splurged and didn’t get the regular 718 Cayman that this is based on.

Seeing that the 2.0-litre turbo boxer-four powers this coupe, power remains at 300hp and 380Nm of torque that is sent to the rear via the seven-speed PDK. The press release quotes a century sprint time of 4.7-seconds, meaning the Sport Chrono kit is present and accounted for. Top speed is 275kph. Riding on the Porsche Active Suspension Management means a ride height lower by 10mm for the 20-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, you’ll find a cocktail of carbon fibre and Alcantara to denote its exclusiveness. Part of the Sport Chrono kit is the drive mode dial on the steering wheel that includes the middle button for a little 20-second extra boost of power from the engine to ease overtaking or gap your opponent on the track.

Other toys comprise a Bose Surround Sound system with 10 speakers, 14-way power adjustable seats and Porsche’s Dynamic Light System Plus.

The 718 Cayman SportDesign is available in only three colours; Racing Yellow, Guards Red and Carrera White Metallic with five units of each shade. As standard, they all come tagged with a four-year warranty that includes a free maintenance package.
