The Volkswagen Training Academy in Glenmarie played host to the National Finals of the 2018/2019 Volkswagen Retail Qualification World Championship (RQWC). Now we’re pretty sure you’re obviously wondering what on earth is the RQWC because we certainly were.

In short, it’s a global assessment that consists of online tests, theoretical and practical assessments as well as exams that’s open to all dealer staff; in particular services advisors, master technicians and parts service advisors.

All the assessments were tailored with the goal of strengthening dealer networks, improving quality and customer satisfaction in addition to providing insights on global standards and practices. While the panel of judges were from Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM), the syllabus for the RQWC National Finals is provided by Volkswagen AG as a method of standardising its global competency.

Volkswagen’s Malaysian network was 311-strong as the championship kicked off last year with online tests. From there, only 27 made it to the national finals. The 27 comprised 10 service advisors, 10 parts advisors and seven master technicians.

The national finals were held over three days from 19 to 21 February 2019 and saw finalists delve into several modules for respective categories. Services advisors were tested on soft skills, dialogue reception and aftersales systems, whereas parts advisors were tested on role-play scenarios, aftersales systems and underwent a written exam. The master technicians were tested on dialogue reception, diagnostic competency, technical professional competency and systematic methodology.

Emerging victorious after three days was Lu Weng Jen from MHV Autohaus (Volkswagen Gombak) in the Service Advisor Category; John Leow Zhi Kuan MHV Autohaus (Volkswagen Gombak) in the Parts Services Category; and Yeoh Chun Ping from Goh Brother Motors (Volkswagen Juru) in the Master Technician category.
