When Proton first launched the current generation Persona, there was something quite odd about its design but can’t quite figure out. Thankfully, that’s all in the past because the just-launched Proton Persona has had a refresh in design, doing many favours for its looks.

The new Persona wears Proton’s new grille — the Ethereal Bow and Infinite Weave. Besides, the bumpers on both ends have been tweaked to make the car look bolder and better. Additionally, a new boot spoiler is slapped on the back side to complete the design changes. Go for the Premium variant, and you add the dual tone alloy rim to the list.

As with the exterior, the interior gets a refurbished as well. Immediately, you’ll see a new steering wheel, new seats and what looks to be a cleaned-up dashboard. In the middle is the new 7-inch touchscreen monitor, if you get onboard with the Executive trim and the GKUI if you have selected the top-of-the-line Premium variant.

In fact, it is only the Executive that gets most of the cool toys and the Premium gets the whole chest. We’ll break it down for you:

The Executive variant gets you:

  • Semi leather seats
  • TFT Multi Info Display with ECO Drive Assist
  • Intelligent entry
  • Push start button
  • Electric door mirrors with auto fold function
  • Remote trunk release
  • Steering switches
  • 60:40 rear seat fold
  • Reverse camera with dynamic lines
  • GKUI 7-inch touchscreen with smartphone connectivity

The Premium variant has everything the Executive has with the addition of:

  • Dual tone alloy rim
  • Stylish gear knob
  • Borderless rear view mirror
  • Auto headlamps
  • GKUI 7-inch touchscreen with 4G and WiFi, with voice command, online music streaming, online navigation and online weather forecast
  • SRS Airbags - front, side and curtain

Thankfully, Proton did not skimp on safety. Persona across the board will get:

  • Front SRS airbags
  • Rear seat ISOFIX & top tether anchorage
  • Hill Hold Assist (HHA)
  • Front & rear parking sensors
  • Immobiliser & Anti-Theft Alarm
  • Impact sensing door unlock

In case you’re wondering, no changes have been made to the engine and transmission. The Persona still runs with a 1.6-litre engine that produces 108hp and 150Nm of torque, channelled by with a CVT or 5-speed manual into the front wheels.

Prices start at a low RM42,600 for the Standard MT, RM44,600 for the Standard CVT, RM49,600 for the Executive and the Premium variant costs RM54,600. All prices are on-the-road without insurance.

With features and prices like these, the Persona is now the most value-for-money in the B-segment arena. Proton shouldn’t have a problem selling this in droves.
