Best sales performance in 46 months for Proton

Why 46 months? Well it obviously sold more vehicles 47 months ago. Regardless, it’s a promising sign for the carmaker

Proton’s sales figures have been steadily climbing with Geely’s backing and May 2019 marked the highest sales figure in 46 months with 10,611 units sold; the most since July 2015. That figure also represents a staggering increase of 51.3 per cent over April 2019 and boosts overall sales growth for the first five months of the year to over 70 per cent compared to the corresponding period in 2018.

Unsurprisingly, the biggest contributor was the X70; accounting for 2,439 units in May to make it a total of 13,572 units delivered this year. That figure also ensures the SUV retains its postion as the overall sales leader in its segment.

Next up in the sales tally are the refreshed Persona and Iriz with 2,972 and 940 units respectively; the highest in over two years. Cumulatively, the new and refreshed models make up almost 4,000 units or 36 per cent of sales.

The honest Saga has also been enjoying a resurgence in sales with two consecutive months above the 3,000-unit mark. In May 2019, 3,610 Sagas were sold, marking a growth of 41 per cent overall in the first five months of the year. Following the Exora’s recent refresh, the Saga is next in line be given a much-needed update.

June 2019 will see the carmaker focus its sales efforts on building volume for the Exora while continuing to grow sales for the other models. Crucially however, it will continue to add more 3S/4S outlets to better serve the increasing number of its vehicles on the road.
