Since production of the Smart Tag has ceased and Touch ‘n Go is shifting towards the adoption of RFID tech, there’s still a market for devices with the same functionality of the former and after the introduction of the portable Max Tag device, there’s now the LokaTag built-in toll reader to further meet the demands of the market.

Lokatech Engineering, together with their technology partner Efkon, launched the LokaTag device today that functions identically to the Smart Tag or Max Tag but can be integrated into the vehicle with a direct wired connection to the vehicle’s electrical supply that negates battery usage for the device.

Furthermore, there’s a back-lit display and the ability to warn users of errors on the card or low credit.

It isn’t cheap though at RM499 though Lokatech Engineering has partnered up with Shopee that adds complementary on-site installation with every purchase from the official store. However, the installation is only available for customers in the Klang Valley, Penang, and Johor.

Customers outside the region will have to make do with installation at selected authorised dealers without any extra charges. An easy payment plan with zero interest can be enjoyed for just an additional RM1. The company is expecting to sell 1,000 units a month.
